At 8.00am last Saturday a crowd of contestants gathered for the annual West Coast North Wales Open Surf Contest. There was a good, clean swell and we started as soon as the heats were drawn up. The first hour was the best before a light onshore wind put a bump on the waves. After a long morning of competition we were down to a four man final. Wave selection was crucial (which was tricky as the good sets were a long way apart). All surfers got some waves and Giles Collyer won. Phil Woods, the defending champion, was second and Kevin Boland was third. The highest scoring girl was Karina Font. The best Under 15 was Samuel Bishop. Thanks to everyone for staying out of the contest area and keeping the beach clean.
