It was called on despite a poor wave forecast. It is often the case that we have to go in marginal conditions because other things - like the party - are in place for a particluar weekend. That said, the waves were contestable and were a good measure for someone used to surfing in North Wales!

We put the groms (under 16 years old) in first. They showed us that the waves were ok and managed a few good turns and shoulder high drops (they were groms!). We held back from announcing the winner until after the Open.

Several heats and a couple of Semi's later, we had a final of four surfers. The tide had backed off a bit now and the waves looked very tricky. The chop wasn't providing many walls for the surfers to turn on. The long board of Mark Blackman allowed him to make the most of it and after a number of long rides, hard turns in the rare pockets and a couple of comical headstands, he was the winner!

The event was it's usual lighthearted but smooth self and everyone seemed to have a good time. More pictures are coming and this page will be updated as we get them.
